PM Modi, Sri Lanka President discuss energy security, maritime stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a telephonic conversation with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, during which the two leaders discussed the evolving situation in West Asia and its impact on global energy security.

The discussion focused on disruptions affecting energy supply chains, with both leaders underlining the importance of maintaining open and secure shipping lines in the interest of global trade and stability.

The leaders also reviewed progress on ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening India-Sri Lanka cooperation in the energy sector, along with efforts to enhance regional security.

Reaffirming India’s commitment to its Neighbourhood First policy and MAHASAGAR vision, Prime Minister Modi emphasised the need for close coordination between the two countries to address shared challenges.

Both leaders agreed to remain in touch and continue consultations on issues of mutual interest.
