World Environment Day celebrated at Iron Ore Complex

Bhilai, Jun 06: World Environment Day was celebrated at SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant’s Iron Ore Complex of Dalli-Rajhara Mines by Environment Department. The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri G C Verma, Acting CGM (IOC) who hoisted the flag on the occasion.
A Pledge was also administered by the Chief Guest on Environment conservation. A message from CGM I/c (Mines and Rowghat) Shri Tapan Sutradhar on this year’s theme “Eco system restoration” was read out on the occasion and highlights of activities for environment conservation were also shared.
Executives and Non-Executives present on the occasion planted trees at the MVT centre. Plantation was also done on World Environment Day at Mahamaya & Dulki Mines.
SAIL-BSP is committed to be clean and green and use sustainable initiatives to protect the environment for “Eco system restoration” and to make Mines pollution-free and has taken manifold measures for saving the ecosystem at Iron Ore Complex (IOC), Nandini Limestone and Hirri Dolomite mines. Some of these are :
De-dusting system has been installed at Rajhara, Dalli crushing plant and Nandini crushing plant. Also, water spray system has been installed at charging and discharge point. The use of Sprinkler is widespread to reduce air pollution at the Mining areas.
44 check dams have been made to stop water pollution. Water treatment plants are operational at Dalli mechanised mines, Jharandalli mechanised mines, Rajhara mechanised mines and at Rajhara Mines hospital.
67% of water that goes to Hitkasa dam after washing of Iron ore at Dalli mechanised mines is recycled. Silica rejection project is to be implemented at Dalli mechanised mines next year, where 100 % water will be reused.
Rain water harvesting systems have been installed at 14 different official and other buildings at the Iron ore complex which leads to a water recharge of 24036 Cubic metre water back to the earth.
Micro fines are separated at Dalli mechanized mines and made into Sinter and used in the Plant, which not only helps in it being re-used, but also aids in curbing environment pollution.
13,68,750 trees have been planted at the BSP mines in an area covering 553.21 hectares. Fruit-bearing trees have been planted at Rajhara backfill, which are lush green and grown-up now. As many as 15,722 trees have been planted in mined out benches in the year 2020-21.
In the year 2021-22, around 9000 trees will be planted at Dalli mechanized mines waste dump and 28,000 trees will be planted in other areas. A total of 37,000 trees is targeted to be planted at Iron ore complex. At Nandini mines, a total of 2,83,085 trees will be planted in an area of 119.17 hectares.
