Tribal empowerment depends on fulfillment of their real needs: Governor

Raipur, Nov 28: Tribal will be empowered only when attention is paid towards their real needs and efforts are made to fulfil them. Special provisions have been made for the tribal in the constitution but it is necessary to make them aware of their rights. This was stated by the Governor, Ms Anusuiya Uikey while addressing the virtual national conference organized by the Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur on the topic “Tribal Transition in India: Issues, Challenges and the Road Ahead”. The Governor congratulated the Vice Chancellor of Hidayatullah National Law University for this conference and asked to organize such programmes continuously in future.
‘It is generally said that the soul of India resides in the rural areas. Similarly, the soul of Chhattisgarh also resides in the tribes and just as the upliftment of the soul is necessary for the upliftment of the living being, in the same way the progress of India including our state is possible only through the upliftment of tribal people’, the Governor said.
‘Many heroes like Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh, Shaheed Gundadhur, Shaheed Gaind Singh made important contribution in the freedom movement of the country. Apart from this, there are many such tribal personalities who are missing in the pages of history. We should try to bring their names to the fore’, she emphasised.
The Governor said ‘we should take special care that progress does not mean turning the attitude of the tribes towards modernity and materialism, but the real meaning of progress is to bring the tribes into the mainstream by saving, preserving and advancing their cultural heritage’.
According to the Governor anarchists often mislead the tribal, taking advantage of their lack of awareness. Tribal society needs to beware of such elements. Only an aware and educated tribal society can give a response to misdeeds of anarchists, she said. Therefore, more and more education will have to be spread in the tribal society, she emphasised.
According to the Governor there is a storehouse of immeasurable knowledge in the tribal society. By matching this knowledge with modern science, excellent competent human resource can be created, she said, adding that there is a need to encourage the art of tribal and try to bring it to the world stage. On this occasion, the Vice Chancellor of Hidayatullah National Law University, Professor VC Vivekanandan, Bastar District Collector Rajat Bansal and Registrar Professor Uday Shankar were virtually present.
