Sri Lanka reports nearly 5,000 dengue cases, 2 deaths in Jan

In Sri Lanka, nearly 5000 dengue cases and two dengue-related deaths have been reported over January. The National Dengue Control Unit reports that 4,943 dengue cases have been recorded and it has identified 16 high-risk dengue zones across the country. Gampaha District recorded the highest number of cases (764), followed by Colombo with 674 cases and the Colombo Municipal Council area with 608 cases.
Authorities have urged the public to take preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue. In 2024, the island nation recorded almost 50,000 cases with 24 fatalities.
