Rashtrapati Bhavan hosts ‘Purple Fest’ to celebrate talent and achievements of Divyangjan

The Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday hosted ‘Purple Fest’, a special event celebrating the talent, achievements and aspirations of Divyangjan, with President Droupadi Murmu emphasising their equal role in India’s journey towards a developed nation by 2047.

The day-long programme saw over 8,000 Divyangjan visit the Amrit Udyan at the presidential estate, which was opened exclusively for them. Visitors participated in a range of fun games, learning activities and interactive stalls set up by organisations working for the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities.

In the evening, the President attended the cultural programme at the Open Air Theatre in the President’s Estate, where Divyangjan artists presented various performances.

Divyangjan key partners in Viksit Bharat

Addressing the gathering, President Murmu said the true character of a society is reflected in how it treats its marginalised sections.

She noted that Indian civilisation has long been rooted in the values of sensitivity, inclusivity and harmony, and that the Constitution of India provides a framework for social justice, equality and dignity for all citizens.

“We are moving forward with the collective goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047, and Divyangjan are equal partners in this journey,” the President said.

Need for collective effort for inclusion

President Murmu stressed that building an inclusive society requires efforts not only from the government but also from individuals and institutions across society.

She highlighted that the Directive Principles of State Policy recognise the rights of persons with disabilities to education, work and public assistance, underlining the constitutional commitment to their empowerment.

Encouraging Divyangjan to move forward with confidence, the President assured them of continued support from both the government and society.

Promoting awareness and inclusion

The Purple Fest, organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aimed to raise awareness about different disabilities and promote understanding, acceptance and inclusion of persons with disabilities in society.

The event also served as a platform to recognise the abilities and achievements of Divyangjan while encouraging greater participation and accessibility in public life.
