President Murmu Launches ‘Karmayoga for Empowered Bharat’ Campaign

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday inaugurated an All-India Conference organised by the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organisation in New Delhi and launched its nationwide campaign “Karmayoga for Empowered Bharat,” while also inaugurating the silver jubilee celebrations of the group’s Om Shanti Retreat Centre in Gurugram.
Speaking at the event, President Murmu said every citizen can contribute to India’s sustainable and holistic development by practising Karmayoga — the principle of selfless action guided by spiritual values.
“Economic progress brings prosperity and technological advancement drives innovation, efficiency and healthy competition — together, they lay the foundation for a strong and thriving nation,” she said. “Yet without a strong moral compass, this development can create serious imbalances: the concentration of wealth in few hands, widespread environmental damage, and the exploitation of society’s most vulnerable. When technology is divorced from ethics, it risks becoming destructive to humanity itself.”
The President stressed that spirituality provides the essential moral framework — virtues such as integrity, compassion, non-violence and service to others — enabling individuals to practise Karmayoga by performing duties with detachment and prioritising the welfare of all.
She highlighted that Rajayoga, as taught by the Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, extends beyond seated meditation to include active Karmayoga: living everyday responsibilities in alignment with high spiritual principles.
The President expressed appreciation that millions of people associated with the organisation already lead meaningful lives through consistent practice of selfless service and Karmayoga.
“Through Karmayoga, every citizen of this country can contribute to India’s sustainable and holistic development,” she said. “This will not only enable India to progress economically, but will help us create a society that will be a model of value-based life for the world.”
The campaign launch aims to promote Karmayoga as a practical tool for personal empowerment, ethical decision-making and collective nation-building, in line with the Brahma Kumaris’ established work in spiritual education, meditation, women’s empowerment and community service across India and internationally.
