PM Modi to inaugurate, lay foundation for projects worth ₹33,500 crore in Delhi on March 8

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore in Delhi on March 8, according to an official statement on Friday.

The Prime Minister will attend the programme around 12 noon and address the gathering. Prior to the event, he will visit the GPRA Type-5 quarters in Sarojini Nagar and hand over keys to female allottees.

Among the key projects, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of Delhi Metro projects worth about ₹18,300 crore. He will inaugurate two new metro corridors — the Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor of the Pink Line, spanning around 12.3 km, and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor of the Magenta Line, covering around 9.9 km.

The new corridors are expected to improve connectivity across several areas of the national capital including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa and Majlis Park.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new corridors under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro expansion, covering a total route length of around 16.10 km. These corridors include R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj.

According to the government, the new corridors will provide direct connectivity to key locations in the national capital and improve travel links between Noida, South Delhi and the airport.

In addition, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for projects worth about ₹15,200 crore under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan.

Spread across Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri, the redevelopment projects aim to modernise government housing colonies and create improved residential and office infrastructure for government employees.

The redevelopment is being carried out through a self-sustaining financial model designed to avoid burdening the public exchequer. Under this model, a limited portion of the project area is being monetised for commercial and residential development to finance the overall redevelopment.

The initiative is expected to provide more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees along with around 48 lakh square feet of office space, aimed at improving administrative efficiency while generating revenue to support the project.
