PM Modi reviews supply, price stability measures amid West Asia conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to review preparedness and response measures in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict.
This was the second such meeting convened to assess the impact of the evolving geopolitical situation on India’s supply chains, energy security, and essential commodities.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary briefed the Prime Minister on steps taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). The government is diversifying sourcing by securing supplies from multiple countries to maintain stability. Domestic LPG prices have remained unchanged, while strict enforcement measures are being undertaken to curb diversion, hoarding, and black marketing.
The Prime Minister was also informed that adequate coal stocks are available to meet power demand in the coming months. Additional steps such as increasing coal rake availability and exempting certain gas-based power plants from pooling mechanisms have been implemented to support power generation, especially during peak summer demand.
The meeting reviewed sector-wise preparedness, including agriculture, fertilisers, shipping, aviation, logistics, and MSMEs. Measures are being taken to ensure timely availability of fertilisers, with a focus on maintaining urea production and coordinating with international suppliers for DAP and NPK fertilisers. States have been directed to intensify monitoring and take strict action against illegal practices.
On food security, the government noted that retail prices of essential commodities have remained stable over the past month. Dedicated control rooms have been set up for real-time monitoring and coordination with states and Union Territories under the Essential Commodities Act. Prices of vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural products are also being closely tracked.
Efforts are underway to diversify global supply sources and ensure safe maritime routes, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz. Diplomatic initiatives are also being pursued to safeguard trade and energy flows.
The Prime Minister reviewed the availability of essential goods for citizens and stressed that all necessary steps must be taken to shield the public from the impact of the global situation. He also highlighted the need for timely dissemination of accurate information to prevent misinformation and rumours.
