PM Modi launches development projects worth ₹33,500 crore in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore in the national capital, aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving connectivity and enhancing the ease of living for residents.
Addressing a gathering in Delhi, the Prime Minister said the projects will give fresh momentum to the city’s development and help build a modern and developed capital.
“We are committed to building a modern and Viksit Delhi. The projects launched today will strengthen infrastructure, improve connectivity and enhance the ease of living for the people of the city,” PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister said the scope of the projects ranges from expansion of the Delhi Metro network to the development of modern residential complexes for government employees.
Referring to the newly inaugurated metro section, PM Modi said the project will benefit lakhs of commuters in the capital, particularly residents of East and North-East Delhi, by making daily travel easier and faster.
Highlighting the importance of the national capital, the Prime Minister said the development of Delhi is closely linked with the global image of India.
“The development of Delhi is not just the development of one city; it is linked to the image of the entire country. The more modern and better connected Delhi becomes, the stronger India’s confidence will be seen across the world,” he said.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the expansion of public transport facilities in the capital, noting that thousands of electric buses are already operating in the city. He added that several new buses, including special ‘Devi Buses’ aimed at improving last-mile connectivity, have also been introduced.
PM Modi said the government is working in mission mode to address key challenges in Delhi, including traffic congestion and environmental issues. He referred to the Peripheral Expressway, which has helped divert a large number of vehicles away from the city, reducing traffic pressure.
The Prime Minister also mentioned ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna river, with several projects being implemented to improve its cleanliness.
Referring to healthcare initiatives, PM Modi said the establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in Delhi are helping provide free treatment and better healthcare access to the poor and middle class.
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited the GPRA Type-5 quarters in Sarojini Nagar, where he handed over keys to beneficiaries of newly constructed residential complexes for government employees.
PM Modi said these modern housing facilities will ensure better living conditions for government personnel who work in service of the nation.
Highlighting financial inclusion initiatives, the Prime Minister spoke about the impact of the PM SVANidhi scheme, which provides financial support to street vendors. He said that in Delhi alone, nearly two lakh street vendors have received more than ₹350 crore in assistance.
He also announced that the government has launched a campaign to provide PM SVANidhi credit cards to street vendors, enabling them to access formal credit and expand their small businesses.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister highlighted the growing role of women in India’s development.
“India’s Nari Shakti is moving forward with new energy in every field—whether it is politics, administration, science, sports or social service,” he said.
PM Modi also noted the growing success of Self-Help Groups, stating that more than 10 crore women are now connected with SHGs across the country. He added that the government has resolved to create three crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’, empowering women to achieve financial independence.
