PM Modi encourages Malaysian firms to expand investment in India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday met leading Malaysian business figures and highlighted the expanding opportunities for trade and investment in India, underlining the country’s reform-driven growth and improving ease of doing business.

The Prime Minister interacted with Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, President and Group CEO of PETRONAS; Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder of Berjaya Corporation Berhad; Dato’ Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director of Khazanah Nasional Berhad; and Dato Pua Khein Seng, Founder of Phison Electronics.

During the interaction, Prime Minister Modi appreciated the growing business-to-business engagement between India and Malaysia and noted the strong interest of Malaysian companies in India’s growth trajectory. He outlined the reforms and initiatives undertaken in recent years to promote ease of doing business and create a stable, efficient and predictable policy environment.

The Prime Minister encouraged Malaysian businesses to explore opportunities in India across key sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, digital technologies, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and healthcare. He also welcomed the convening of the 10th India–Malaysia CEO Forum in Kuala Lumpur on February 7 and expressed confidence that its discussions would contribute to deeper trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The Malaysian industry leaders welcomed India’s reform agenda and expressed strong confidence in the country’s long-term growth prospects. They conveyed their interest in expanding their business presence in India by increasing investments and exploring joint ventures with Indian partners.

The interaction underscored the growing economic engagement between India and Malaysia and reflected shared intent to strengthen commercial cooperation as part of the broader Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
