Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday shared a car ride with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim, reflecting the warm and personal rapport between the two leaders, as the Indian Prime Minister began his two-day official visit to Malaysia.

The two leaders travelled together to a community programme in Kuala Lumpur shortly after Prime Minister Modi’s arrival in the Malaysian capital. Sharing a photograph from the journey on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said the moment celebrated the strong people-to-people ties between India and Malaysia.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a warm reception at the airport, where Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim personally received him as a special gesture. Expressing his appreciation, Prime Minister Modi said he was deeply touched by the welcome and looked forward to further strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister was also received by Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Dato’ Seri R. Ramanan and Deputy Foreign Minister Dato’ Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni. The arrival was followed by a vibrant cultural welcome highlighting the shared heritage of India and Malaysia, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

In a post on X, the MEA said Malaysia is an important partner in India’s Act East Policy, Vision MAHASAGAR and the Indo-Pacific vision, adding that the visit is expected to give fresh momentum to the close and multi-faceted bilateral partnership.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to attend a community event titled ‘Selamat Datang Modiji’, where members of the Indian diaspora will showcase cultural performances. The event will include an attempt to enter the Malaysia Book of Records through a large-scale group dance performance representing various Indian classical and folk traditions.

According to the MEA, Prime Minister Modi’s visit from February 7 to 8 is aimed at further strengthening the India–Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2024. During the visit, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and engage with representatives from the Indian community and other stakeholders to enhance cooperation across political, economic, cultural and people-to-people domains.

This marks Prime Minister Modi’s third visit to Malaysia since 2015, underlining the growing strategic and diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
