Ono software useful for candidates: State Election Commissioner

Raipur, Nov 21: The facility of filing nomination papers online will be available for the candidates participating in the upcoming urban body elections by the State Election Commission. To this end, online training of Deputy District Returning Officers, Returning and Assistant Returning Officers concluded through video conferencing in Nirman Bhawan on Saturday.
State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh said that Chhattisgarh State Election Commission was the first such commission in the country which took this initiative. He told that this software was used for the first time in the 2019 urban body elections. This time this process of election has been has been made mandatory in general elections to be held in 15 urban bodies and by elections to be used in 14 urban bodies.
In 2019, both online and offline methods were available with the candidates, but this time the nomination forms should be filled 100% online. This software is developed by in house team at Chhattisgarh State Election Commission. The intention of the commission behind this is to adopt the changing technology with the changing era. Online nomination will also prove to be very useful in the context of Covid 19 as the candidates can file forms through mobile or computer while sitting at homes. He said that for this guidance would be available at the district level also.
Deputy Secretary, State Election Commission, Deepak Agrawal told in the training program, that this software will provide an error-free platform to the candidates. Deepak Agrawal told that the candidates will have to create an account first to fill the form through Ono software. The most important will be the mobile number of the candidate, it is very important from the point of view of security because without OTP the login ID cannot be created. So the candidates should choose the same mobile number which they are using themselves. In this software, candidates will have all their necessary documents like affidavit, photograph, form 8 and 9, caste certificate (if required) if you are a candidate of a recognized political party. Security deposit can also be done online. A copy of the receipt will also have to be uploaded after submission through offline mode. It will not be necessary in case of online payment.
It was told in the training that one of the objectives of this software is also to bring transparency.Separate dashboards have also been created for the Commission, District Election Officer and Returning Officer to make it easier to work. It was told in the training that there would be facility for nomination process, voting process, counting of votes and after that the certificate generation of the winning candidate would also be there. He has directed all the Deputy District Returning Officers to spread maximum publicity regarding Ono besides explaining it closely to political parties and election officials so that they can use it easily. The training programme was attended by District Election Officer, Nodal Officer of Ono, Returning and Assistant Returning Officers assistant programmers, technical staff and computer operators from Durg, Raipur, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Rajnandgaon, Bemetara, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Koriya, Surajpur, Kanker, Kondagaon, Dantewada, Bijapur and Sukma.
