National Technology Day: CSIR transfers 13 indigenous technologies to industry, startups

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research on Tuesday transferred 13 indigenous technologies developed by CSIR-Central Building Research Institute to industries and start-ups during a Technology Transfer Event held at CSIR headquarters in New Delhi to mark National Technology Day.

The technologies, aimed at boosting sustainable infrastructure and self-reliance, covered areas such as fire safety, infrastructure protection, energy efficiency and advanced building materials. Key technologies transferred included fire-resistant transparent intumescent coating for wood and wood substitute surfaces, IPN coating technology for protection of RCC structures, low-carbon footprint brick manufacturing technology, hybrid solar-assisted heat pump systems, and prefabricated high-strength steel cord reinforcement technology for wall protection.

Speaking at the event, CSIR-CBRI Director R. Pradeep Kumar said organising the technology transfer programme on National Technology Day carried special significance as it reflected the growing strength of India’s research ecosystem and its contribution to nation-building. He added that such initiatives would play a key role in advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and technology-driven development.

N. Kalaiselvi, Director General of CSIR and secretary, DSIR, said science, innovation and technology-based development were emerging as major drivers in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. She noted that the transfer of indigenous technologies from CSIR laboratories to industry was strengthening the national innovation ecosystem and accelerating the vision of a self-reliant India.

A video on the “CSIR Smart Village Initiative” and the Annual Report 2025–26 of CSIR-CBRI were also released during the programme.
