Ministry of Ayush signs MoU with BHASHINI to boost multilingual digital healthcare services

The Ministry of Ayush on Thursday signed an MoU with the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to strengthen multilingual access to Ayush digital services through AI-powered language technologies.

The partnership, under the initiative “BHASHINI Rajyam – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program,” aims to integrate the BHASHINI platform across Ayush Grid portals, applications and AI-enabled services to expand digital outreach in all 22 scheduled Indian languages.

According to the ministry, the collaboration will enable faster transcription and translation of Ayush knowledge systems, including Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy, making them more accessible to citizens across linguistic regions.

The MoU was signed by Dr Subodh Kumar, Director in the Ministry of Ayush, and Amitabh Nag, CEO of the Digital India BHASHINI Division, in the presence of Secretary Rajesh Kotecha and Joint Secretary Kavita Jain.

Speaking on the occasion, Kotecha said Ayush systems carry “civilisational knowledge and cultural depth”, and stressed the need to make them accessible in all Indian languages to ensure inclusive healthcare delivery. He said the collaboration would help build domain-specific terminology systems and AI tools for the Ayush ecosystem.

Jain said multilingual AI solutions have the potential to improve healthcare access at the grassroots level, adding that technology-driven systems such as doctor-patient interaction tools reflect a shift towards more citizen-centric healthcare delivery.

BHASHINI CEO Amitabh Nag said language-inclusive AI systems are essential for equitable access to digital public services, adding that the partnership will help build voice-enabled, multilingual healthcare systems aligned with India’s Digital Public Infrastructure vision.

The ministry said Ayush Grid portals, including the Yoga Portal and MAISP, have already integrated BHASHINI tools, with positive user feedback, and that all remaining platforms will now be onboarded.

The initiative will also explore integration with the NAMASTE portal for developing standardised terminologies and future AI models in the healthcare sector.

Demonstrations during the event included AI-based prescription generation, real-time meeting transcription, voice-based CV tools and digitisation of ancient manuscripts, showcasing the potential of multilingual digital public services.
