Meditation key to inner transformation and global peace: Vice President Radhakrishnan

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Sunday underscored the transformative power of meditation, describing it as a pathway to inner peace, clarity and holistic living, while addressing the Global Conference of Meditation Leaders in New Delhi.

The conference, held at Bharat Mandapam, brought together meditation practitioners, spiritual leaders and policymakers from across the world. It was organised by the Pyramid Spiritual Societies Movement and the Buddha-CEO Quantum Foundation.

Congratulating the organisers and participants, the Vice President praised their efforts in promoting meditation as a means to achieve both personal well-being and global harmony. Drawing from the teachings of the Tamil sage Thirumoolar, he likened meditation to an inner light that dispels ignorance and leads individuals towards truth and peace.

Highlighting contemporary challenges, V-P Radhakrishnan noted that conflict exists not only in the external world but also within individuals. In this context, he said meditation can help cultivate clarity of thought, emotional balance and a positive outlook, while also enhancing the ability to listen and empathise.

“Meditation is the starting point of inner transformation,” V-P Radhakrishnan said, adding that better individuals lead to better societies. He emphasised that the practice can reduce stress, improve focus and strengthen emotional resilience, making it relevant for people from all walks of life, not just spiritual seekers.

The Vice President also cautioned against excessive materialism, stressing the need for balance between economic success and meaningful living. He said that while wealth can provide comfort, it should not come at the cost of mental well-being.

Linking meditation to nation-building, V-P Radhakrishnan said that achieving the vision of a developed India by 2047 requires not only economic progress but also a focus on mental and emotional health. “Better minds build a better world,” he remarked.

Expressing concern over rising substance abuse among youth, the Vice President highlighted meditation as a potential tool to combat addiction by helping individuals manage stress and find direction. Recalling his earlier efforts towards drug eradication, he reiterated the importance of preventive and holistic approaches.

Quoting philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti, V-P Radhakrishnan said that the ability to observe without judgment is a hallmark of intelligence, adding that meditation nurtures this quality and leads to personal and societal transformation.

Several prominent figures, including spiritual leader Swami Chidanand Saraswati and former CBI Director D. R. Kaarthikeyan, were present at the event along with meditation experts and scholars.

The conference highlighted the growing global interest in meditation as a tool for fostering peace, resilience and sustainable living in an increasingly complex world.
