Julian Assange Joins Massive Pro-Palestinian March on Sydney Harbour Bridge

Julian Assange, the Australian activist and WikiLeaks founder, joined a massive pro-Palestinian protest in Sydney today. Tens of thousands marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Among the crowd were Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore and retired footballer Craig Foster.

Meanwhile, in Melbourne, 25,000 people gathered for a similar rally. The events followed growing international calls for the recognition of the State of Palestine.

In late July, foreign ministers from 15 countries, including Australia, urged the formal recognition of Palestine, with France announcing its intention to recognise Palestine at the UN in September.

Meanwhile, protests continued globally. In Cape Town, South Africa, a group of women from the Mothers4Gaza movement held a silent protest, denouncing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Holding placards and images of emaciated children, they called for an end to what they described as genocide and starvation caused by the Israeli blockade.

Irene Knight, a member of Mothers4Gaza, condemned the silence of Western governments and called for immediate action to stop the violence in Palestine.
