J&K L-G Reviews Security, Amarnath Yatra Arrangements After Anantnag Attack
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar to assess the overall security situation following the recent terror attack in Anantnag and review logistics and safety arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Civil Administration, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and other key security agencies.
In a post on X, the Lieutenant Governor said the meeting comprehensively reviewed arrangements for the annual pilgrimage in view of the recent spell of inclement weather and heavy rainfall across the region.
He directed all departments to maintain close coordination to ensure the safety, well-being and convenience of pilgrims undertaking the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The pilgrimage remained suspended on Thursday due to adverse weather conditions.
The security review also followed Wednesday’s terror attack in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area, where Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was shot dead by terrorists while on duty.
According to officials, security agencies have intensified counter-terror operations across the Kashmir Valley following the attack. Police have detained more than 3,000 suspected overground workers (OGWs) from different districts as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to security agencies.
Condemning the killing, Lieutenant Governor Sinha said those responsible would be brought to justice at the earliest.
Security forces have launched a massive search operation to trace the attackers. Police have also released the photograph of a suspected terrorist and appealed to the public to share any information that could assist the investigation.
Meanwhile, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the District Police Lines in Anantnag to pay tribute to the martyred policeman. Hundreds of people attended his funeral in Beerwah area of Budgam district.
