J&K L-G gives appointment letters to 50 next of kin of terror victims
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over compassionate appointment letters to 50 next of kin of terror victims in the Union Territory in an effort to help them rebuild their lives.
Describing the government’s initiative as ‘Sharansthli’ (Support), the L-G said the programme aims to assist affected families in rebuilding their lives through employment opportunities. The appointment letters were distributed at the Lok Bhawan auditorium in Srinagar under the UT government’s compassionate appointment rules.
Speaking on the occasion, Sinha said many terror victim families had been waiting for government support for a long time. “By providing employment, we are bringing a new ray of hope and offering them an opportunity to rebuild their lives,” he said, calling the occasion an Eid gift for the families.
“Eid Mubarak to all families. These letters symbolise justice, recognition and a new beginning. Together, we must nurture our youth, ensure dignity and rebuild Jammu and Kashmir for a bright future. Over 400 families of terror victims have already received appointment letters. These are genuine appointments, and if any errors are found, they will be addressed immediately,” he added.
The L-G said many other cases are currently under process with coordination between the police and the administration. “Justice is not merely words on paper; it is a light that dispels darkness in hearts and brings new hope. Families who had long awaited government support have finally been recognised and embraced by the administration,” he said.
Acknowledging the suffering of the victims’ families, Sinha said thousands of families have lost their dreams and stability due to terrorism since the 1990s. “The Jammu and Kashmir administration is committed to rebuilding their lives. I have personally met many terror victim families and ensured their reintegration. This is a matter of justice, not charity. Today’s programme is proof of that justice,” he said, adding that the administration and police are ensuring strict action against those responsible.
He also noted that some victims were only 12 or 13 years old when tragedy struck their families. “We will work towards rehabilitating them and addressing their concerns, including those whose voices have not yet been heard. Their cases will be reviewed in April,” he said.
Referring to recent achievements, the L-G said several initiatives under the Prime Minister’s guidance have strengthened the systems in Jammu and Kashmir. “We have created a framework based on fairness, equality and self-reliance. Sixteen youths from the Union Territory have been selected through the Union Public Service Commission, and Jammu and Kashmir recently secured victories in the Ranji Trophy. These achievements reflect sustained efforts to empower youth and citizens,” he added.
Reaffirming the administration’s stand on security, Sinha said there will be zero tolerance towards terrorism. “We will continue to take strict action against elements promoting terror. The police and administration are working together, and society must also reject such elements. Our commitment aligns with the Prime Minister’s principle of zero tolerance for terrorism,” he asserted.
