Jaishankar meets UAE leadership, discusses Indian community and regional tensions

 

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar began a two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates, holding high-level talks in Abu Dhabi amid ongoing tensions in West Asia and concerns over the welfare of Indian nationals in the region.

During the visit, Dr Jaishankar met UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday, where discussions focused on the evolving regional situation and its implications. The External affairs minister conveyed appreciation for the UAE government’s support in ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community, while both sides reviewed cooperation and ways to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Earlier, in a post on X, Dr Jaishankar said he had started his visit to the UAE by interacting with members of the Indian community soon after arrival. He further stated, “Spoke about GOI’s efforts towards their well – being and security amidst the West Asia conflict.” He also highlighted the role of the diaspora, expressing appreciation for “their contributions to the local society during these difficult times, as well as the support of the Government of the UAE in ensuring welfare of the Indian community.”

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said the April 11-12 visit aims to review close cooperation and further strengthen bilateral ties. The ministry also noted that Dr Jaishankar’s visit, along with that of Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to Gulf nations, is part of efforts to reinforce India’s energy security amid evolving regional dynamics in West Asia.
