Indian naval ship Trikand concludes port call in Mauritius after National Day participation

The INS Trikand concluded its port call at Port Louis on March 13 after participating in the 58th Mauritius National Day celebrations. The Indian warship took part in the National Day Parade on March 12 at Champ de Mars with a marching contingent, naval band and an integral helicopter that performed a fly-past, continuing the long-standing tradition of Indian naval participation in the island nation’s national celebrations.

During the visit, the ship’s Commanding Officer, Captain Sachin Kulkarni, called on Rampersad Sooroojebally and Anurag Srivastava. The warship also hosted a cultural evening onboard attended by senior officials of the Mauritian government, with Mahend Gungapersad as the chief guest. The event brought together ministers and officials from Mauritius, highlighting the close cultural and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The port call included a series of professional interactions, cultural engagements, sports activities and community outreach initiatives aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. Training sessions were also conducted onboard for personnel of the Mauritius National Coast Guard on harbour and sea watchkeeping practices, including firefighting and damage control. The ship was opened to visitors on March 12 and welcomed more than 500 people.

After departing Port Louis, INS Trikand carried out a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) and joint Exclusive Economic Zone surveillance with CGS Valiant before proceeding to the next phase of its operational deployment. The visit reaffirmed the strong maritime partnership between India and Mauritius and aligned with India’s vision of MAHASAGAR to promote security and growth across the Indian Ocean region.
