India and Japan hold second Economic Security Dialogue with focus on resilient supply chains

India and Japan on Monday held the second round of the India-Japan Economic Security Dialogue in New Delhi, with discussions focusing on strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors such as critical minerals, semiconductors, clean energy, pharmaceuticals and emerging technologies.
The dialogue was co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri along with Japan’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takehiro Funakoshi and Vice Minister for International Affairs in Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Takehiko Matsuo.
Senior officials from several Indian ministries and departments, including the National Security Council Secretariat, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Heavy Industries, Department of Telecom and Department of Pharmaceuticals, participated in the discussions. Japanese officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security Secretariat and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry also attended.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Economic Security Dialogue serves as the institutional mechanism to oversee progress under the Economic Security Initiative announced by the prime ministers of India and Japan during the 15th Annual Summit in Tokyo in August 2025.
The two sides exchanged views on their respective economic security policies and reviewed recommendations emerging from a private sector dialogue organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry and Keidanren in March this year.
The discussions focused on industrial and technological collaboration in five sectors — critical minerals, semiconductors, information and communication technology including artificial intelligence and telecom, clean energy, and pharmaceuticals.
Both sides also underlined the importance of stronger public-private partnerships to protect economic interests and build resilient supply chains amid the current geopolitical environment, the ministry said.
The Economic Security Dialogue was followed by a bilateral Foreign Secretary-Vice Minister Dialogue between Misri and Funakoshi, during which the two sides discussed defence, security, trade, investment, technology, innovation and people-to-people ties, along with regional and global developments of mutual interest.
