Guidelines issued for senior citizens to prevent COVID-19 infection

Raipur, May 07: The Social Welfare Department of state government has issued guidelines for senior citizens aged above 60 years especially those with certain medical conditions to prevent COVID-19 infection.
According to guidelines senior citizens should always be at home and avoid meeting the visitors. If meeting with visitors is important they should maintain distance of two meters. If they are alone in their homes they can depend upon neighbours for necessary domestic works. They should also avoid attending any function or event and actively move inside homes. They should also perform minor exercises and yoga and do meditation regularly besides cleaning their hands regularly. They must wash their hands with soap or hand-wash for at least 20 seconds particularly before taking meal or after coming out of wash room.
According to guidelines the senior citizens must clean the frequently touched items like spectacles etc. with disinfectant, keep elbow in front during sneeze or cough. They should use tissue paper or handkerchief. After use the tissue paper should be put in dustbin, handkerchief should be cleaned and hands should be washed. They should ensure proper nutritional diet by eating homemade fresh hot food, take fresh juice and drink water frequently besides increasing their immunity and taking daily prescribed medicines regularly.
They should monitor their health regularly. In case of having any problem related to cold, cough, fever or respiratory, they should contact immediate health center, talk to their family members who are not with them and keep in touch with friends, relatives. If alternative surgery is scheduled, they should postpone it under such circumstances. The senior citizens should not come close to persons with COVID symptoms like could, cough and fever and avoid shaking hands with them or hug them. They should also avoid going to crowded places like parks, markets and religious places.
They should not cough or sneeze with open hands and should not touch the eyes, face, nose and tongue frequently. They should also not self-treat and go out if it is not necessary or invite family members and friends. They should go to the hospitals for routine checkup or follow up or seek telephonic assistance from doctors if necessary besides avoiding dehydration in the summer and consume sufficient amount of water.
