Fuel supply stable, no LPG shortages as govt steps up monitoring amid West Asia tensions

The Centre on Sunday said there are no LPG shortages across the country, even as it continues to closely monitor the evolving situation in West Asia and its potential impact on energy supply chains.
According to an official statement, over 52.3 lakh domestic LPG cylinders were delivered on April 11, with officials confirming that no “dry-outs” have been reported at distributorships. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas urged citizens to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel and LPG, and instead rely on official updates while adopting energy conservation measures.
The government has intensified enforcement to curb hoarding and black marketing, conducting over 2,700 raids nationwide. Public sector oil marketing companies have imposed penalties on 219 LPG distributors and suspended 56 distributorships. At the same time, efforts to shift consumers towards alternative fuels have picked up pace, with more than 4.24 lakh PNG connections activated since March and over 4.66 lakh new registrations recorded.
Officials said all refineries are operating at high capacity with adequate crude stocks, while retail fuel outlets remain functional and prices unchanged despite global volatility.
Port operations across India remain normal with no congestion reported, and the government has ensured that maritime safety protocols are in place for Indian vessels and seafarers in the region.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to support Indian nationals in West Asia, with missions operating round-the-clock helplines and coordinating travel.
Since February 28, around 8.97 lakh passengers have returned to India, even as flight operations continue under restricted conditions across several countries in the region.
