Fire Safety Week to be observed across healthcare facilities from May 4

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will observe a nationwide Fire Safety Week from May 4 to 10, 2026, aimed at strengthening awareness and preparedness against fire hazards in healthcare institutions. The initiative, being carried out in coordination with States, Union Territories, and other Central Ministries, will focus on prevention, mitigation, and emergency response mechanisms within hospitals and related facilities.
The week-long observance will be inaugurated in New Delhi by Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava at Kartavya Bhawan. As part of the opening ceremony, a nationwide pledge on fire safety in health facilities will be administered to reinforce adherence to safety protocols and promote a culture of vigilance across the sector.
A series of activities, including awareness campaigns, mock drills, and capacity-building exercises, will be conducted throughout the week. These initiatives are designed to equip healthcare workers and administrators with the knowledge and skills needed for fire prevention, emergency handling, and evacuation procedures.
The Ministry said the initiative reflects its continued commitment to ensuring the safety of patients, healthcare personnel, and critical infrastructure by promoting robust fire safety systems across all levels of the healthcare delivery network.
