Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrives in Chennai on two

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in Chennai on Wednesday for a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, during which she is scheduled to attend a series of educational, developmental and public outreach programmes.

Sitharaman arrived in Chennai from New Delhi and was received by BJP leaders and party workers at the Chennai International Airport. Her office shared photographs of the reception on social media, describing it as a warm welcome from party functionaries.

Following her arrival, the Finance Minister left for Kanchipuram district, where she is scheduled to participate in multiple engagements. On June 25, she will release a book titled “Daughters of Kanchi – The SSKV Story” at SSKV College of Arts and Science for Women in Kanchipuram. Later in the day, she will inaugurate the renovated old lighthouse at the CGST Commissionerate in Puducherry.

On June 26, Sitharaman is slated to inaugurate the restored 400-year-old Muzhiankulam at a government middle school in Puducherry as part of heritage conservation and community development initiatives.

The visit comes a day after the Finance Minister held discussions in New Delhi with a delegation led by US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The talks focused on strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation and exploring new opportunities for commercial engagement between India and the United States.

The US Embassy in India described the trade partnership between the two countries as a “win-win”, highlighting cooperation in areas ranging from energy security to technology and talent exchanges. US Ambassador Sergio Gor also said discussions were continuing on efforts to finalise a trade agreement between the two nations.
