Ex-Bangladesh Minister Alleges Foreign Pressure on Ukraine Vote

Former Bangladesh minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury – who has reportedly gone into hiding following the change of government in Dhaka – has claimed that “certain countries” played a key role in the ouster of the previous administration after it refused to align with Western powers over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

His remarks were shared on X by Margarita Simonyan, the editor-in-chief of the Russian state-run broadcaster RT.

According to Simonyan’s post, Mr. Chowdhury said that during the early stages of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Bangladesh faced “intense lobbying” to vote against Russia at the United Nations. However, the then government chose to abstain, maintaining what it described as a neutral foreign policy stance.
