Ensure that Reform Express reaches grassroots level, PM Modi urges stakeholders
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that this year’s Union Budget lays out a clear roadmap for a ‘Viksit Bharat’ driven by technology, reforms and finance, and called upon all stakeholders to ensure that these reforms reach the grassroots level.
Addressing a post-Budget webinar, the Prime Minister urged stakeholders to translate reforms into tangible outcomes. He proposed the creation of a charter involving the government, industry, financial institutions and academia to achieve the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
“The Union Budget 2026–27 ensures ease of doing business, simplifies processes and promotes tech-led governance. This is the time to ride the Reform Express with a focus on excellence in policy delivery,” he said while addressing the virtual gathering.
Emphasising the role of technology, PM Modi said, “We need to leverage AI, blockchain and data analytics to enhance transparency, speed and accountability. We must also strengthen grievance redressal monitoring.”
Highlighting the sharp rise in government capital expenditure (capex) over the past decade, the Prime Minister said it sends a strong signal to the private sector. He noted that government capex stood at around ₹2 lakh crore 11 years ago and has now crossed ₹12 lakh crore.
“At this scale, government spending is a clear message for the private sector. Industry and financial institutions must come forward with renewed energy,” he said.
The Prime Minister underlined that over the last 10 years, the government has consistently focused on strengthening infrastructure – including highways, railways, ports, digital networks and power systems – to create assets that will enhance productivity for decades to come.
He also called for reforms in the bond market and measures to mitigate risks in order to attract sustained foreign capital. “We need to adopt global best practices and strengthen market confidence,” he added.
The webinar was the first in a series of post-Budget consultations being organised on key themes emerging from the Union Budget 2026–27. The sessions aim to draw lessons from past experiences and gather structured feedback from stakeholders to ensure effective and outcome-oriented implementation of Budget announcements for FY 2026–27.
