Election Commission launches ECINet KYC feature to help voters check candidates’ background

Ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections and by-elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has urged voters to make informed choices by using the “Know Your Candidates” (KYC) module available on its ECINet platform.
The Commission had earlier announced the poll schedule on March 15 for Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry, along with by-elections in several constituencies across multiple states.
Over 1,900 Candidates in Fray
According to the ECI, a total of 1,955 candidates are contesting elections in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry and bypoll-bound constituencies, which are scheduled to vote on April 9. Meanwhile, the nomination process is underway for elections in Tamil Nadu and phased polls in West Bengal.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 9 for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Phase-I, and April 13 for West Bengal Phase-II.
Know Your Candidate Through ECINet
Voters can access detailed information about candidates through the KYC module on ECINet, including their criminal antecedents, assets and liabilities, educational qualifications, and verified social media accounts.
The platform also allows users to download the complete affidavit (Form 26) submitted by candidates, ensuring transparency and easy access to critical information.
One-Stop Digital Platform
ECINet has been described as the world’s largest electoral service platform, integrating more than 40 applications and portals of the Election Commission into a single interface.
It offers a range of services to voters, including registration, electoral roll search, application tracking, and grievance redressal. Additional features include downloading digital voter ID cards (e-EPIC), connecting with election officials, and booking calls with Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
The platform also includes tools such as cVIGIL for reporting election code violations and Saksham for facilitating accessible services for persons with disabilities.
Push for Informed Voting
The Election Commission has emphasised that the KYC feature is aimed at empowering voters with verified and comprehensive information, enabling them to make informed decisions at the ballot box.
With elections approaching in multiple states, the Commission has encouraged citizens to actively use digital platforms like ECINet to participate more effectively in the democratic process.
