Delhi pushes green mobility with flag

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday flagged off around 500 electric buses and a new Delhi–Panipat bus service, marking the completion of one year of the BJP-led government in the national capital.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, Public Works Department Minister Parvesh Verma, and BJP National President Nitin Nabin.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the people of Delhi had voted for change in the 2025 Assembly elections after years of stagnation in development. She said the mandate reflected public aspiration for better basic amenities and governance and asserted that the current government is committed to restoring Delhi’s development trajectory.

The Chief Minister said the introduction of electric buses reflects the government’s focus on sustainable transport and improved civic infrastructure. She added that the people of Delhi had clearly demonstrated that democratic power rests with citizens, who both elect governments and hold them accountable.

Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the completion of one year in office was being marked by the fulfilment of key promises made to the public. He said the addition of 500 electric buses would strengthen public transport while contributing to cleaner air. He also highlighted the launch of the Delhi–Panipat bus service as a step towards improving regional connectivity.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP MLA Anil Goyal said the induction of electric buses was aimed at addressing Delhi’s air pollution and improving environmental conditions in the city.

The Delhi government said the expansion of the electric bus fleet is part of its broader strategy to promote green mobility, reduce vehicular emissions and enhance the efficiency of public transport services. The new initiatives are expected to benefit daily commuters while contributing to environmental sustainability.
