Chhattisgarh’s First Folk Festival, Hareli, to Be Celebrated with Traditional Fervor at the Chief Minister’s Residence in Naya Raipur

Raipur: A special program will be organized on August 12 at the Chief Minister’s residence in Naya Raipur to mark the occasion of ‘Hareli Tihar’—a festival that embodies Chhattisgarh’s rich folk traditions, agricultural culture, and rural way of life. In the presence of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, this folk festival will be celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and the vibrant colors of Chhattisgarh. Organized by the Culture and Agriculture Departments, the event will commence at 10:00 AM.

Hareli is considered the first and a major folk festival of Chhattisgarh. Deeply rooted in agriculture, the festival symbolizes gratitude towards nature, prayers for a bountiful harvest, and the collective joy of rural life. Celebrated amidst the greenery of the Sawan (monsoon) season, Hareli Tihar reflects the state’s agrarian culture and the deep, soulful bond between the people of Chhattisgarh and nature.

On the day of Hareli, farmers clean and worship their agricultural implements and ploughs. While paying respect to the tools used in farming, they pray for a good harvest, prosperity, and well-being. In villages, the joy of Hareli is shared through traditional rituals performed in homes and community gathering spots (chaupals). The tradition of riding Gedi (bamboo stilts) and various Chhattisgarhi games further enhance the festive spirit.

The special program at the Chief Minister’s residence will also offer a vivid glimpse of these folk traditions and rural life. The venue will be decorated to reflect a Chhattisgarhi rural setting, in keeping with the spirit of Hareli. The state’s rich cultural heritage will be showcased through traditional farming items, agricultural tools, and various symbols of folk culture.

Traditional activities associated with Hareli will be the main attraction of the event. A festive atmosphere will be created, featuring traditional Chhattisgarhi games and the diverse colors of the state’s folk culture. The event also aims to connect the new generation with their folk traditions, agrarian culture, and the rich heritage of rural life.
