Centre to hold national conference on Kharif strategy, climate

The Centre will hold a two-day National Conference on Agriculture for the Kharif Campaign 2026 at the NASC Complex in Pusa on May 28 and 29, with a focus on boosting farm productivity, strengthening climate-resilient agriculture and improving coordination between the Centre and states ahead of the upcoming sowing season.
The conference, organised by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare under the chairmanship of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will bring together state agriculture ministers, senior officials from the Centre and states, scientists from Indian Council of Agricultural Research, and other stakeholders to deliberate on priorities for the Kharif season.
According to the Agriculture Ministry, the discussions will centre around Kharif preparedness, climate-resilient farming, natural farming, digital agriculture, agricultural finance, risk management, and measures to enhance pulses and oilseeds production.
The conference will be structured around three major themes — self-reliance, diversification and production growth; sustainability and climate-resilient agriculture along with “Khet Bachao”; and infrastructure, financing and risk management.
State governments and Union Territories have been grouped for thematic discussions and experience sharing, with the Centre aiming to identify actionable strategies to improve agricultural productivity and resilience across the country.
Officials said the deliberations will also focus on lessons emerging from zonal consultations, promotion of innovative agricultural practices, strengthening extension outreach and improving coordination between the Centre and states for the effective implementation of agricultural programmes.
The government said the conference reflects its continued commitment towards building a sustainable, resilient and farmer-centric agricultural ecosystem aligned with the vision of a developed India and prosperous farmers.
