Ayush Ministry steps up preparations for International Day of Yoga 2026

 

The Ayush Ministry has intensified preparations for the 2026 edition of the International Day of Yoga, convening a high-level core committee meeting on Tuesday to chart out a roadmap for a large-scale and impactful celebration.

The meeting chaired by Ayush Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha brought together representatives from multiple central ministries and departments to ensure coordinated planning and execution. Key ministries including Home Affairs, External Affairs, Defence, Culture, Railways and Women & Child Development participated, along with departments spanning education, health, youth affairs and environment.

The Ministry emphasised that the 2026 observance will build on the strong foundation of previous editions while introducing new initiatives to enhance public participation and global outreach. The government reiterated its commitment to promoting yoga as a powerful tool for holistic health, preventive care and overall well-being.

The discussions focused on strengthening inter-ministerial coordination to expand the scale and reach of Yoga Day celebrations. Ministries were encouraged to align their programmes with the broader vision of integrating yoga into daily life across diverse sections of society.

A detailed presentation reviewed the global evolution and impact of the International Day of Yoga, highlighting India’s leadership in promoting the ancient practice worldwide. Plans were also discussed to organise yoga demonstrations at iconic locations, boost international engagement and deepen participation across states and Union Territories.

The Ministry outlined a comprehensive strategy that includes countdown campaigns, digital outreach initiatives and thematic programmes centred on inclusivity, sustainability and youth engagement. These efforts aim to ensure wider public involvement and reinforce yoga’s relevance in contemporary lifestyles.

The Ministry noted that a “whole-of-government” approach is being adopted for the 12th edition of the event, reflecting a collaborative effort across sectors to maximise impact and visibility.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment among all participating ministries and departments to work in close coordination to make the 2026 International Day of Yoga one of the most extensive and impactful editions to date.
