Attacks on energy installations in Gulf deeply disturbing, unacceptable: India

India on Thursday described the recent attacks on energy installations across the Gulf region as deeply disturbing and said such actions must stop, warning that they would only add to instability in an already fragile global energy environment.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had earlier called for the protection of civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, across the region.

“Recent attacks against energy installations in different locations across this region are therefore deeply disturbing and only serve to further destabilise an already uncertain energy scenario for the whole world. Such attacks are unacceptable and need to cease,” Jaiswal said in response to media queries.

The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Gulf, with reports indicating that attacks on oil and gas infrastructure are pushing the US-Israel-Iran conflict into a more dangerous phase and raising concerns over global energy supplies.

Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Crown Prince of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, and exchanged views on the evolving situation in West Asia. He also expressed concern over recent developments and reiterated India’s condemnation of attacks on Kuwait’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Prime Minister underlined that ensuring safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz remains a key priority.

Prime Minister Modi also held a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday, during which both leaders discussed the West Asia situation and stressed the need for de-escalation and a return to dialogue and diplomacy.
