Amit Shah pays tribute to Savitribai Phule on death anniversary

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday paid tribute to social reformer Savitribai Phule on her death anniversary.
In a post on X, Shah said: “Savitribai Phule Ji started a movement to connect women with education at a time when many social evils were prevalent in society. She established the country’s first school for girls and carried the idea of equality to the masses.”
“I pay my respects to Savitribai Phule Ji on her death anniversary”, he added.
Savitribai Phule (1831–1897) is honored as a pioneering Indian educator, social reformer, and poet who championed women’s rights and education. Alongside her husband, Jyotirao Phule, she established India’s first school for girls in Pune in 1848, fighting against intense social opposition to promote literacy among women and marginalized communities.
