Young minds engaged with complexities of new Media

EDITCON 2024: EDIT AND ELEVATE

Raipur: A 3-days Editors Conference drawing together some of the most influential voices in the media industry were organized under the aegis of City-based NH Goel World School at the school campus here on Saturday.

The first day was packed with insightful sessions, engaging discussions, and collaborative networking opportunities. The conference provides a unique opportunity for the students and editors/speakers to come together as a community.

The conference opened with a welcome note by the school Principal Dr. Awinash Pandey in which he applauded the participation of various schools and added that the role of editors the fast-paced world of media, where the landscape is continually evolving.

He also briefed about the following days where the students will engage in meaningful discussions, share insights, and explore new ideas that will help us navigate the complexities of modern journalism.

Attendees participated in a practical workshop ‘Basic of News Writing’ which focused on the use of data in journalism. The workshop provided an overview of techniques for sourcing, analyzing, and visualizing data to create compelling and informative stories. Participants gained hands-on experience with tools and methodologies that can enhance their reporting. The workshop was facilitated by Ejaz Kaiser, Chhattisgarh Head of New Indian Express Group. Another insightful workshop by Ravikant Mittal, a Editor In Chief , IBC24 News Channel brought the participants to discuss the future trajectory of journalism. Topics included the impact of digital transformation, the challenges posed by social media, and strategies for combating misinformation. He also shared his vision for how newsrooms can innovate and thrive in a rapidly changing landscape.

The keynote speakers and the students had very interactive sessions where the students shared their queries which were taken up by the speakers. The keynote speakers were felicitated by Director Administration SK Tomar.

The budding editors from various schools had a round of presentations where they shared about the editing concepts used for their school newsletter/magazine. All the teams received huge appreciation. Attendees had ample opportunities to network with peers and guest editors. The networking sessions facilitated meaningful exchanges of ideas and fostered potential collaborations.

The day ended with a session on the ‘Practical Application and Innovation’, the day 2 theme, where Ms. Rachael Faith, an alumna shared her experience and guided the participants on how to work on school newsletter and magazine.
