9 Dead, 15 Injured in Boiler Blast at Vedanta Power Plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti

At least nine people were killed and 15 others injured in a boiler blast at a Vedanta Power Plant in the Singhi Tarai area of Sakti district on Tuesday, police said.
Sakti Superintendent of Police Praful Thakur confirmed the casualties, stating that the injured were rushed to a hospital in Raigarh for treatment.
Raigarh Sub-Divisional Magistrate Mahesh Sharma said an investigation into the incident is underway. “A tragic incident has occurred at the Vedanta power plant. The injured are receiving treatment, and we are examining the cause,” he said.
Family members of the injured workers expressed concern over the lack of information. Rajkumar, whose son is among those hospitalised, said the incident occurred around 3 pm. “We are trying to get updates on his condition, but no one is informing us. My son had been working here for four months. No one from the company has reached out,” he alleged.
Senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed grief over the loss of lives and urged the state government to ensure proper treatment and compensation for the victims. In a post on X, he described the incident as “heartbreaking” and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the plant said the explosion took place at one of the boiler units operated by a subcontractor, NGSL, which handles operations and maintenance. The company said its priority is to provide medical assistance and support to those affected.
“A thorough investigation has been initiated in coordination with our partner and relevant authorities. We are extending full support to the injured and their families,” the spokesperson said, expressing condolences to those impacted.
Further details are awaited.
