34 personnel, 33 units awarded for courage and operational excellence: Southern Command

The Southern Command Investiture Ceremony was held in Ahmedabad on February 6 and 7, honouring 34 personnel and 33 units of the Indian Army for acts of valour, courage and distinguished service to the nation.
According to an official release, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, conferred awards on 34 distinguished personnel in recognition of exceptional bravery, professionalism and dedication to duty. In addition, 33 units were presented the “GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Citation” for operational excellence, professional achievement and outstanding performance.
The ceremony featured a ceremonial Guard of Honour for the Army Commander, reflecting the rich traditions and ethos of the Indian Army.
Addressing the gathering, the Army Commander said the investiture ceremony serves as a tribute to exceptional courage, selfless service and professional excellence. He said the occasion also draws inspiration from the supreme sacrifices of fallen soldiers and the enduring legacy of veterans who have served the nation with distinction.
Highlighting the preparedness of Southern Command, he underlined its high level of operational readiness, jointmanship and multi-domain capabilities, as demonstrated during recent operations and military exercises. He reaffirmed the Command’s continued focus on operational preparedness, technological modernisation and inter-agency coordination to enhance integrated capability and strengthen national security.
During the ceremony, Veteran Achievers Awards were also presented to distinguished veterans for their significant contributions across diverse fields. A weapon and equipment display showcased modern arms, systems and platforms, reflecting the Indian Army’s ongoing modernisation and technology infusion initiatives under the Decade of Transformation.
The event was attended by senior dignitaries, defence officials, invited guests, Veer Naris and Veer Matas. The ceremony was marked by solemn pride and national reverence, reinforcing the core values of courage, discipline, sacrifice and selfless service that define the Indian Army.
