Huge cache of liquor seized from bootleggers

Police have arrested two bootleggers and have recovered huge cache of liquor from their possession. The liquor was being smuggled in two different cars. The prime accused has managed to escaped after which intensive search operations have been launched to trap him. The seized liquor is the product of a Goa based distillery. In the wake of Coronavirus pandemic and consequent lockdown, the liquor shops have also been closed in the district. Taking advantage of the situation, the bootleggers have become active in the district as the situation is favourable for them to make quick bucks. Considering the situation, SP Prashant Thakur had directed to maintain strict vigil on the activities of suspects and criminal record holders. The vehicles are also being checked at various spots. Under the supervision of ASP (City) Sanjay Kumar Dhruw and CSP (Chhawani) Vishwas Chandrakar, the team of Jamul Police is also working in this direction.
In this sequel, they received a tip off regarding liquor smuggling in two different cars. Police team swung into action and one of the suspected vehicles was intercepted near ACC Square. On searching the vehicle Tata Safari (CG07-NA-3500), police recovered 13 crates (624 quarters or 112.3 bulk litres) of Goa Brand Liquor worth Rs 74880. The car driver Rahul Rajbhar (24) son of Ram Surat Rajbhar a resident of ACC Square, Jamul was arrested.
In another case, police chased a Swift car (CG10-K-3300) and intercepted it near Sai Mandir in 32-Acres colony. Two men were moving in the car but one of them managed to flee. On searching, police recovered 15 crates (720 quarters or 129.3 bulk litres) of liquor worth Rs 86400. The car driver Gagandeep Singh (24) son of Balvir Singh a resident of SudarVihar Colony, Jamul was taken in custody. During interrogation, he disclosed the name of their gang leader Vishal Tyagi, a resident of Camp-2. Police have launched search operations to trap the absconding accused.
Police have booked both the accused under the provisions mentioned in section 34 (2) of Excise Act. 28 crates of liquor and two cars total worth Rs 11.11 lakh have been seized.
