State level Mayor Cup Hockey tournament from today

Bhilai, Feb 20: With an interest to encourage sports in the district, the first state level Mayor Cup Hockey tournament is going to be organized from February 21 to February 25 in Durg at Civil Line Grounds in front of Mahila Samridhi Bazar.
The tournament is being organised under the leadership of Durg Mayor Dheeraj Bakliwal to nurture and encourage the sports talent of the city. The tournament will be inaugurated by MLA (Durg Urban) Arun Vora while Mayor DheerjBakliwal will preside over.
The Durg Mayor opined that the work of any Municipal Corporation is not restricted to just providing basic amenities to the public but also provide a healthy environment for the people to recreate. It is in this sequel that a state-level hockey tournament is being organized by the Durg Corporation for the first time.
This will encourage the sports talent of the city and they will be able to move towards development and progress. The Mayor’s Trophy is being organised under the guidance of MLA Arun Vora all efforts are being made to work in accordance with the expectations of the general public in every direction and at every level.
Dheeraj added that it is in keeping with the public interest that a successful flower show was organized at Rajendra Park which not only enhances the beauty but also gives the message of environment protection. Similar such cultural and social programmes would be organised regularly.
Among distinguished guests to be present at the inaugural function of the tournament will be Speaker Rajesh Yadav, Education and Sports Department in-charge Mandeep Singh Bhatia, Deputy Superintendent of Police Padmashree Arjuna Award winner Saba Anjum, Ward Councilor Najhat Parveen.
Apart from this, all MIC members,councilors, other ward public representative, Commissioner Indrajit Burman, Executive Engineer Mohanpuri Goswami, and other officers of the corporation will be present in the program. For the first time, 16 teams will take part in the state level Mayor’s Trophy Hockey Competition including those from Raigarh, Korba, Janjgir, Mahasamund, Jagdalpur, Bhilai Steel Plant, Raipur, City Club Bhilai, Rajnandgaon, Balod, Kawardha, Chhattisgarh Police, Mayor 11-Durg, and District Hockey Association teams.
